My learnings checklist
Over my failures and learnings in life, I have made some kind of checklist which I go over once in a while so that I don't forget them. And I keep adding to it when I get a new experience or learning. It has got a bit long over time. There is a story or incident behind each of them that is in the list, but then the blog will become too long. So, just giving the points below.
Bigger Objective. Especially in a job, keep in mind the bigger objective. This helps overlook and overcome the problems.
Positive: Think positive.
Relationships.
Be Expressive rather than suppressing your feelings.
Align with the bosses (Of course)!
Do, Do, Do.
Diplomatic.
Think Long-term.
Elluna ennaiya iru. ( Sorry , that was a Tamil proverb. Do things requested faster and readily).
Speed of Implementation.
Don't tell out everything.
Don't laugh or smile unnecessarily and be serious, esp. in front of subordinates.
But sometimes, smilingly tell hard facts.
Time, Time, Time. Do things earlier.
Never become complacent.
Don't refuse work, esp. directly.
You may be doing work, but sometimes that may not be enough for appraisal and survival purposes.
Be used to betrayals.
Energy and Enthu is your super-power and that is the biggest contribution from your side.
Don't keep in mind the angry responses of your boss.
Never be too proud or think yourself as superior.
Don't be jealous of those who are doing well.
Think of your situation when you joined the company.
Don't try to do things alone. Take your boss into confidence.
Ask what you want.
And don't leave when someone says "No". (Learnt this from my son , when dealing with his mother).
You have it. Don't think you do not.
Chicken and egg problem is likely to be there in any job and project, not only at the start of the career where experience is needed for getting a job and a job is needed to gain experience.
Go and talk to people.
Don't leave things entirely to others if you are the lead.
Be competitive.
Don't be critical of people.
Should be able to handle success.
There should be no scope of failure.
Excellence is its own reward!
Don't take long leaves(!)
Be thankful for the opportunity.
Try to have some fun and humour at work.
Don't take things literally sometimes.
I am normal, you are normal.
Most of the times I was jobless (!)
Don't cut off or ignore people.
And, last but not the least,
Don't take much ado about nothing which is very often the case.
